Raymond Hayes - Director

An author on property law and graduate of London and Oxford Universities, Raymond was formerly a partner with a leading Hong Kong firm specialising in major commercial property transactions.  He returned to the UK in 1995, becoming a partner with Bartons.  He heads the Bartons’ property team from our Salcombe offices,  from which he serves not only a local client base but also one in  London and the South East for clients based in London, South Africa and China.  His specialties include Landlord and Tenant matters, investment properties, second homes and high value residential plot sales for developers.

Nicola Edgcombe - Director

Nicola joined Bartons in 2002 following a law degree in Plymouth.  Originally from Totnes, she now heads the residential property team at Bartons’ Totnes office, specialising in more unusual South Hams properties.  Her personal approach and commitment to excellent customer service means close to 100% of her clients return to her for each subsequent property purchase or sale.

Kristy Heard - Legal Executive

Working as part of the Salcombe team, Kristy deals with all types of complex residential conveyancing, site acquisition and plot sales for developers as well as acting on behalf of commercial landlords.  She deals with collective freehold purchases, sets up residents' management companies and deals with the secretarial duties that arise. Another aspect of her work is assisting clients with issues arising from leasehold and investment properties.

Mark Lister - Solicitor

Mark joined Bartons in November 2008 and is responsible for the delivery of private client services at our Totnes office.  Mark carried out his training at a leading Birmingham law firm before being appointed head of the Private Client Department at a leading Staffordshire legal practice where he became partner.

Mark joined Bartons to strengthen our existing Private Client Department.  He has a diverse knowledge of advanced tax planning for both individuals and corporate bodies. He has experience of using offshore tax planning and advises on care planning for the elderly.

He also undertakes specialist work relating to the protection of the environment from pollution and was instrumental in agreeing a structure with the Environment Agency for the making and maintaining of financial provision for the aftercare requirements of landfill sites.

Mark has strong connections with accountants and financial advisors and is able to link together the planning of estates with financial products.
